Local Existing Home Sales Declined In October

The rate of existing home sales in October rose on the national and state levels, but declined in central Ohio. Jim Letizia reports.

The Columbus Realtors trade association says more than 23 hundred existing homes were sold in its 20 county region last month, a decline of six-tenths of a percent from September. A spokesperson says there were fewer homes on the market last month and prices were higher. The Ohio Association of Realtors says sales in October reached a seasonally adjusted annual rate of nearly 142 thousand, up 5.5 percent from the previous month. The National Association of Realtors says existing home sales rose 1.5 percent to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 5.26 million in October, up from a revised pace of 5.18 million in September. The median price of a U.S. home rose by 5.5 percent over the past 12 months to 208 thousand dollars. October’s average home price in Ohio was 147 thousand dollars, while the average in central Ohio was 182 thousand, up by 1.7 percent from September.
