Local Grand Jury Declines To Indict Cop Who Shot And Killed A Man Last Year

Columbus Division of Police

A Franklin County grand jury has declined to indict a Columbus police officer who shot and killed a man during a traffic stop in April of last year.

County prosecutor Ron O'Brien says dash-cam and security camera video convinced jurors not to indict Nicholas Mason for shooting and killing 32-year-old Jason Christian.  Authorities say Christian was stopped at a Lockbourne Road gas station because he was suspected in multiple thefts and wanted on traffic warrants. Mason was trying to get Christian out of the vehicle when Christian tried to flee and dragged Mason into a parked vehicle. Mason was  treated for minor injuries. Christian had a criminal record.
