A Columbus man has been sentenced to three weeks in jail and two years' probation for making homophobic slurs against a gay man at a fitness club on East Dublin Granville Road. 41-year-old Michael Smith was convicted last week and sentenced this week. Prosecutors say Smith had to be restrained by other patrons and also sent profane, homophobic slurs to the manager. Smith says the man was trying to pick him up. Prosecutors say Smith was charged under the city's intimidation law.
