Local Waterpark To Hit The Auction Block

fortrapids.com

Columbus' only indoor water park will be placed on the auction block this fall. Jim Letizia reports.

The minimum bid for Fort Rapids Indoor Waterpark Resort on the east side is 3 million dollars. Original investor Platinum Lodging spent 40 million dollars to turn the former Holiday Inn site into a water park. The current owner, the Tennessee-based Brownlee Reagan Revocable Trust,  was one of the investors who purchased the facility out of bankruptcy in 2010. It was closed by Columbus police last February. Police cited a history of problems including criminal activity, fire-code violations, bug infestations and improper food handling. Several people were sickened by foul air due to failure to properly clean up from an an electrical fire. The Better Business Bureau gave the facility an 'f' grade in 2015. The auctioneering firm is advertising the facility as something to be converted into a hotel and exhibit space, or senior housing. Bids must be submitted by October 14.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
