Local Women Pleads Guilty In Real Estate Fraud Case

A Lewis Center woman has pleaded guilty to federal charges of making false statements on real estate closing documents. Prosecutors say the statements by 41-year-old Cynthia Mild related to down payment information entered on Department of Housing and Urban Development forms between September 2004 and December 2007. The property investor purchased approximately 30 residential family homes and sold 24. She allegedly made the down payments for her buyers by purchasing official bank checks, made out to the closing title agency, and naming the buyers as the remitters on the checks. The original mortgage loans were paid off and the excess proceeds were deposited into bank accounts under her control. Sentencing is pending.
