Man Convicted Of Illegally Harvesting Timber From Land Owned By Deceased Grove City Resident

A Vinton County man will serve 4 years in prison for stealing more than 2 million dollars worth of timber from land owned by a deceased Grove City resident. 53-year-old Mark Betts, the owner of a logging business, must also pay restitution. Betts pleaded guilty in November to cutting down trees without permission and stealing the timber between  2007 and 2010. The 700 acres of land owned by the late Roy Waldron is near McArthur. He died as the case was being prosecuted.
