Man Pleads Guilty To Unearthing And Selling Native-American Remains

Federal prosecutors say a Wellston man has pleaded guilty to charges of unearthing and selling the remains of a Native American. The remains were in a rock shelter in Salt Creek Valley in Jackson County. Prosecutors say the case against 55-year-old Toby Thacker is the first enforcement of the federal Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act in the Southern District of Ohio. Sentencing is pending. Two men pleaded guilty last year in the same case while a fourth man has pleaded guilty to purchasing the remains.
