Man Sentenced To 15-Years And Deportation For Enslaving Marion-Area Egg Farm Workers

washingtonpost.com

The ringleader of a scheme that smuggled teens into the U.S. and kept them as virtual slaves at an Ohio egg farm has been sentenced to just over 15 years in prison.

A federal judge in Toledo said Aroldo Castillo-Serrano will be deported to his native Guatemala after he's served his sentence. Castillo-Serrano is in the U.S. illegally. The judge said Castillo-Serrano lied and tricked his victims into leaving Guatemala and then profited from them.  Prosecutors say the victims included his family members and some boys as young as 14.   Authorities say he promised the boys they'd be enrolled in school; instead they were forced to work on an egg farm in central Ohio and live in run-down trailers.
