Toledo's mayor has ended a battle to block the release of a police department gang-territories map a day after a The Blade newspaper obtained a copy of it. The newspaper reports that Mayor Mike Bell's administration filed a motion to dismiss its appeal of a lawsuit filed last year. The newspaper yesterday published a copy of the map it obtained from a source. The motion to dismiss verifies that The Blade has an authentic copy of the map. Toledo officials have said the gang map is used in active criminal investigations and therefore not a public record. But a state appeals court last month ruled that the city should release it.
