Coming up on a special edition of JazzSet this Saturday August 24th at 3pm, host Dee Dee Bridgewater
features the Marian McPartland Trio playing at The Kennedy Center, from February, 2005.
During the show, Marian moves through an Ellington medley to pieces by Ornette Coleman, Jerome Kern, BixBeiderbecke/Jimmy McPartland, Mary Lou Williams. She takes a request for "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square" and closes with "When the Saints" in a moving, personal arrangement.
We celebrate the First Lady of Piano Jazz, playing her life, at The Kennedy Center. Marion McPartland passed awayon Tuesday, August 20th, 2013 at the age of 95.
