Columbus, Oh – In 2010, voters approved moving a casino from its planned location in the arena district to the old Delphi plant on Columbus' West Side. Casino operators Penn National asked for millions of dollars worth of economic incentives to help facilitate the move. Talks between the Columbus Blue Jackets, Nationwide Arena, the City, and other interested parties on a new lease deal continued with little progress. But the downtown office vacancy rate hit 15 percent in the second quarter after reaching highs over 25 percent ten years ago. In this portion of our annual end of the year interview with Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman conducted December 21st, he discusses the office vacany rate and provides updates on the Casino and Blue Jackets deals.
