A recounting of ballots put a central Ohio county's developmental-disabilities levy over the top - more than three weeks after the votes were cast in the primary election.
The leaders of the Licking County Board of Developmental Disabilities learned Tuesday that their tax levy passed by 21 votes after late absentee and provisional ballots were counted. After the May 6 election, the measure appeared to have failed by eight votes. But results won't be official until another mandatory recount on June 6. A total of nearly 21,000 ballots were cast in the county. The developmental disabilities board in the county east of Columbus hasn't seen a tax levy fail since 1986. With passage of the measure, the board's annual revenue will increase from about $3.5 million to about $6 million.
