More Mosquito Traps In Columbus This Year

National Geographic

Columbus Public Health officials are increasing the number of mosquito traps around the city this year, as part of an effort to prevent the spread of diseases like West Nile Virus. Workers will be trapping mosquitos at 81 permanent locations to track behavioral trends and determine if and where the spraying of pesticides is needed. An online map with trap and spraying locations and notifications will be available to the public next week. There were 24 human cases of West Nile in Ohio and three deaths last year. The city began testing mosquitoes for the virus last year after the Ohio Department of Health ended its program. Columbus crews began spraying for mosquitos on Wednesday.
