More Soil Tests To Be Conducted Near Saunders Park

The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency plans to take soil samples from nine more homes near the closed Saunders Park on the East side. Samples previously collected from eight of nine properties found arsenic, lead, mercury and other harmful chemicals at levels exceeding safety standards. Saunders Park sits near the site of a fertilizer plant that closed in the 1970s. The city plans to spend 1.2 million dollars to remove contaminated soil in hopes of reopening the park in 2016.
