A Mount Gilead man has been convicted in Delaware County of taking part in a string of thefts from animal shelters around the state. Prosecutors say the break-ins that targeted cash, electronics and medication were committed by 30-year-old James Blankenship and another man, 38-year-old Corby Creech, who also pleaded guilty. Blankenship's attorney argued his phone and car may have been used by others involved in the break-ins. Authorities say the string of thefts happened at shelters in 16 counties including Champaign, Delaware, Knox, Logan, Madison, Marion, Morrow and Union. Blankenship is expected to be sentenced today.
