Akron Mayor Garry Moneypenny says he's changed his mind and will resign on Wednesday after admitting he acted inappropriately with a female city employee when she tried to congratulate him on his new position. Moneypenny says he does not think he can govern effectively. Moneypenny says the hug he gave the employee turned into a personal encounter that she reported to the city's personnel office.
Moneypenny was chosen to succeed Don Plusquellic, who announced his retirement in May amid a dispute with City Council and the Akron Beacon Journal.
