Starting December 31st, New Year's Eve
9pm-5am: Toast of the Nation - From Boston to Monterey California, stopping in Washington, New York, Chicago and Denver. Join host Rhonda Hamilton to ring in 2014 with Toast of the Nation. Jazz mingles with Latin, classical and spiritual sounds, and listeners from coast to coast swing in a happy new year, from WBGO and NPR Music. This year's performers include the Donald Harrison Quintet, Cecile McLorin Salvant with the Aaron Diehl trio, the Wynton Marsalis Septet and more!
9am: Jimmy Tingle: Making Comic Sense of 2013 - From the crack-smoking Mayor of Toronto to the new Pope, comedian Jimmy Tingle (60 Minutes II, MSNBC) will ring in the New Year with a hilarious look at the past year that will have listeners laughing all the way to Memorial Day.
10am-12pm: Paul Winter Solstice - One of NPR's most popular holiday specials returns with new talent and old friends. Malian singer Abdoulaye Diabate joins The Paul Winter Consort with Paul McCandless, the Drummers of The Fores of Nature, Gospel vocalist Theresa Thomason, and the historic reassembly of the Paul Winter Sextet in the World's Largest Gothic Cathedral -- New York's Cathedral of St. John the Divine. WNYC'S John Schaefer hosts this NPR holiday broadcast favorite.
12pm: Q with Jian Ghomeshi: Joni Mitchell Special - In this one-hour special, Jian Ghomeshi sits down with the legendary and highly influential Canadian folk music icon Joni Mitchell at her home in Los Angeles. The wide-ranging discussion spans Mitchell's early years coming up in Toronto's Yorkville scene, to today, as she is honoured at the Luminato Festival for her 70th birthday.
1pm: Sound Opinions: Best Albums of 2013 So Far- Hosts Jim DeRogatis and Greg Kot present the best albums of 2013. They talk about favorite releases by Savages, Chance the Rapper, Upset and more.
2pm: The Beatles - On Air Live at the BBC - This program compiles extracts from Pop Go The Beatles (July 1963), Public Ear (November 1963), From Us To You (March 1964), The Alan Freeman Show (July 1964), Saturday Club (Christmas Day 1965), Where It's At (May 1967) and The Kenny Everett Show (1968) to create a revealing portrait of how British audiences would have originally heard the Beatles, the way they presented themselves and the impressions that they left.
