Newark Leaders Approve Changes In Vicious Dog Ordinance

Newark City Council last night approved a measure that no longer automatically labels pit bulls or other specific breeds as vicious. Instead, a vicious dog is now defined as any that has killed or seriously injured a person without provocation. The measure bringing Newark code in line with state law also imposes stiffer penalties for violators.
