ODOT To Fill Abandoned Mine Underneath Sagging Route 33

The Ohio Department of Transportation plans to fill the abandoned coal mine that's causing U.S. Route 33 in southeast Ohio to sag. Engineers say there's no immediate danger to drivers. Work will begin this summer to stabilize a 1-mile stretch in the westbound lanes of the highway just south of the Nelsonville bypass. The 4.5 million dollar project is expected to be completed in 2017.
