toledoblade.com

The police chief in the Lake Erie island resort town of Put-in-Bay has been charged with blocking an investigation into sexual assault claims against an employee more than a decade ago.

Four misdemeanor charges including dereliction of duty and falsification have been filed against  Chief RicLampela. The Ohio Attorney General's Office says Lampela is accused of ignoring claims made by two employees in 2003 who reported that another employee sexually assaulted them. The office says the police chief wanted to prevent negative publicity for the department. Lampela also was charged with aggravated menacing after investigator say he threatened an employee with a firearm in 2012.
