Ohio Joins Coalition Challenging "White Collar Exemption"

hradvisors.com

Ohio is a member of a coalition of 21 states suing the Labor Department over a new rule making more higher-earning workers eligible for overtime pay. The suit asks a court to block implementation before the regulation takes effect December 1. The measure would shrink the so-called "white collar exemption" and more than double the salary threshold under which employers must pay overtime to their workers. The states say the rule would burden the private and public sectors and represents inappropriate federal overreach. Backers say those sectors have benefited from not paying workers what they are owed.
