The Labor Department says Ohio is one of 25 states that saw their unemployment rates increase in January from December.
Rates fell in 8 states and were unchanged in 17 others. The national rate rose by a tenth of a point to 7.9 percent. Meanwhile state employment officials say Central Ohio's jobless rate rose to nearly seven-percent in January, up a point-and-a-half from December. But some local economists say the rate from the Ohio Department of Job and Family services is not adjusted for the loss of seasonal jobs, which would paint a different picture.
