Ohio Prison Workers Union Sues To Stop Prison Farms Shutdown

madison-press.com

The union representing Ohio prison guards is suing to stop the planned shutdown of 10 state prison farms  and sell land to raise millions of dollars to fund new rehabilitation programs.

The Ohio Civil Service Employees Association says closing the farms without consulting the union violates the collective bargaining agreement. The union also questions the closures after the state agreed last year to spend 9 million dollars on new barns at the London and Marion prison farms. The state will  prepare to sell off livestock and stop farming by 2017.
