Ohio Steelmaker Again Fined For Health And Safety Violations

wksu.org

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has proposed a 280 thousand dollar fine against Republic Steel for violations over lead exposure and hazards caused by unsafe machinery at its plant in Canton. OSHA says a 64-year-old worker sustained a broken pelvis after being struck by a piece of equipment in December, 2016. OSHA says it opened a second investigation eight days later after workers complained about lead exposure. Officials say they found evidence of seven exposure incidents. The company has 15 working days to respond to the agency's findings. In 2014, Republic Steel agreed to pay 2.4 million in fines to settle more than 100 health and safety violations at plants in Canton, Lorain and Massilon, as well as one in New York state.
