Ohio Team Continues Helping Idaho Battle Wildfire

Aug 17, 2012

Since August 6, twenty Ohioans have been assisting efforts related to the Mustang Fire, burning about 28 miles west of North Fork, Idaho.

Drew Todd of the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Fire says the crew spent the first five days putting in fire lines and sprinkler systems. On Monday, the fire expanded significantly. So, Todd says the Ohio team began doing structural protection and back burns, and they were fortunate not to lose any structures. The Ohio members will spend another week in Idaho. Todd says it's been extra challenging given the steep terrain. The squad has also started protecting homes from rockslides. Earlier this summer, a three-member Ohio crew assisted efforts in California.
