The Labor Department says the number of claims for unemployment insurance benefits in Ohio rose by nearly 2-thousand last week due to layoffs in the auto industry.
Nationally, claims rose by 4-thousand to a seasonally adjusted 367-thousand. Applications have mostly stayed near or above that level since the spring, coinciding with a weak stretch of hiring. Applications must fall consistently below 375-thousand to lower the nation's unemployment rate.
