An Ohio man has been arrested in a plot to attack the U.S. Capitol and kill government officials. 20-year-old Christopher Lee Cornell of Green Township in suburban Cincinnati is charged with attempting to kill officers and employees of the United States. Cornell was arrested Wednesday as he took control of two AR-15 assault rifles. during an undercover FBI operation. The FBI says the public was never in danger and he never made it to Washington. An FBI informant began supplying agents with information about Cornell last year. The suspect's father, John Cornell, says his son recently converted to Islam after two years of soul-searching following his graduation from Oak Hills High School.
John Dean, the owner of the gun shop where the FBI says Cornell bought the weapons, says agents came in ahead of time and warned him the suspect would be on his way.
Agents say Cornell pledged allegiance to ISIS this past summer. They also say he used another name: Raheel Mahrus Ubaydah.
