Ohio's Unemployment Rate Now 5.3 Percent

Ohio's unemployment rate for October is 5.3 percent, down by three-tenths of a point from September. The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services says the number of unemployed workers in October was 305 thousand, down 14 thousand from September, and down by 119 thousand over the past year. Non-farm payrolls increased by 1 thousand last month to more than 5.3 million. Job losses in manufacturing and construction were offset by job gains in the leisure and hospitality sector, as well as the professional and business services sectors. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics says the national unemployment rate for October is 5.8 percent.
