One Killed, One Injured In Near East Side Gas Station Shooting

A man was killed and another man was injured in a shooting at a gas station on the Near East side Monday evening. Columbus police responded to the Sunoco gas station at Lexington and 5th avenues around 6 pm and paramedics pronounced 26-year old Marvin Ector dead on the scene. 31-year old Darnell Gammon was taken in critical condition to OhioHealth Grant Medical Center. Police are investigating whether the station had video of the incident. Initial reports were that a green truck fled the station after the shooting.

Extra police officers were called in at one point because distraught relatives and friends of the dead man pushed through the crime-scene tape. One man was briefly detained but then released without being charged.
