OSU Issues "Active Shooter On Campus" Alert

Ohio State University sent an "active shooter on campus" this morning, urging students and faculty to shelter in place.  According to reports, a vehicle crashed into Watts Hall this morning around 9:30, and Columbus Fire responded to suspicions of a possible chlorine leak.  Shortly after that, an individual within the building began to attack people.  Fire officials say nine people have been taken to the hospital; one is in critical condition, while the others are considered stable.   

UPDATE:  Columbus Police report one suspect has been killed.  Two people have been taken into custody.

UPDATE:  Grandview Heights and Upper Arlington Schools have been placed on Level One emergency status; doors and windows locked and movement restricted in the buildings.

UPDATE:  Ohio State University has lifted the "shelter in place" warning, but classes are cancelled for the remainder of the day.  Columbus Police continue to surround the Lane Avenue parking garage on the north side of the campus.

UPDATE: Latest statement from OSU: 

Ohio State University Police and local law enforcement continue to respond to a public safety incident on Ohio State’s campus. A suspect has been shot and reported deceased. Victim injuries include stab wounds, injury by motor vehicle and other injuries that are being evaluated. At the recommendation of law enforcement, campus alerts for shelter in place have been lifted. Campus remains open during the continued investigation, although classes have been canceled for the remainder of the day. Facts are still being verified. We will hold a media briefing as soon as we are able. The university will continue to share information through Buckeye Alert and emergency.osu.edu. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our campus community. Our thoughts and prayers are with those injured and their families.
