Columbus, Oh – The Ohio Deparment of Natural Resources says Grand Lake Saint Marys in western Ohio is now safe for boating. But the department has added Stonelick State Park in Clermont County to its list of warnings related to toxic algae blooms. More than a dozen public ponds and lakes now have warnings posted, because toxins produced by the blooms pose a health risk to humans and pets. Four state agencies will hold a public hearing next month to talk about short-term and long-term plans for Grand Lake Saint Marys. Meanwhile, researchers at Ohio State University are working to pinpoint and curb the exact causes of the blooms, while also attempting to predict water quality for more timely warnings. Mike Foley reports.
