Ohio State University has agreed to pay 3.45 million dollars in medical claims in separate lawsuits over patient care. The university will pay the estate of Michael McNew of Dublin 1.7 million following his 2009 death from an undiagnosed condition that can cause internal bleeding. Ohio Court of Claims records show McNew called an OSU Internal Medicine office multiple times over several days after being treated for extreme rectal pain and was told to continue taking his pain medication. The university will also pay 1.75 million to Bryan Huff of Marietta for injuries sustained after undergoing surgery for a spinal injury in 2013. Records say Huff sustained an air embolism that resulted in multiple complications after air was detected in the tubing connected to his catheter.
