Otterbein Blames AG For Bad Advice In Records Lawsuit

Otterbein University says it got bad advice from the state attorney general in a battle over releasing campus police records.

A student journalist is suing the private school asking for arrest records and other information. Otterbein argues it is exempt from public-records laws as a private institution and federal law requires it to protect certain information about students from release.College attorneys say the AG's office gave them that advice in an open records training event. But a spokesperson says the AG's office does not provide legal advice during such training and Otterbein should release the records.
