Overdose Deaths Continue To Rise

The Ohio Department of Health says a record number of Ohioans died from heroin-related overdoses in 2013. 983 people died in 2013, up from 697 deaths in 2012. The overall number of fatal drug overdoses rose to more than 21 hundred, up from more than 19 hundred in 2012. Prescription painkiller-related deaths rose to 726 from 680. Fatal drug overdoses remain the leading cause of accidental death in Ohio, a trend that began in 2007.
