Poindexter Village Demolition Begins
The controversial demolition of the Poindexter Village housing complex is underway.
Crews began razing 25 of the 35 buildings on the site yesterday to make room for a senior-living complex and mixed-income housing. Neighbors had protested the demolition, claiming the Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority was destroying part of the city's African-American heritage. Columbus historic preservation officials say a group is reviewing the condition of 10 remaining buildings and will present options for preservation to CMHA by the end of the month.
