Police Briefing Targets Shoplifting Rings

Ohio police officers are scheduled to attend a briefing at the Columbus Police Academy today on ways to fight organized retail crime such as large-scale shoplifting rings. The Ohio Regional Organized Crime Coalition was formed last year to help police identify thieves. Investigators say organized retail crime is different than individual shoplifting because gangs team up to steal large amounts of merchandise, which is often resold. The coalition includes police investigators and companies fighting retail crime.
