Police: Man Suspected Of Killing Officer Wanted Law Enforcement To Kill Him

City of Cincinnati

Cincinnati Police Chief Jeff Blackwell says a man suspected of shooting and killing an officer on Friday apparently wanted to commit "suicide by cop." Blackwell says 21-year-old Trepierre Hummons texted people before the shooting and indicated he wanted to make police kill him. Blackwell says Hummons also made two 911 calls saying a belligerent man was walking around with a gun. Blackwell says Hummons shot 48-year-old Officer Sonny Kim, the first officer to arrive on the scene after the 911 calls. He says Hummons began struggling with the wounded Kim over Kim's gun, taking it away from him, before another officer arrived and a gunfight broke out.  Hummons' mother told police he had been having problems with a girlfriend.
