A Democratic state lawmaker is hopeful majority Republicans in the Ohio Senate will approve his house-passed bill designating every June 12 as Superman Day in the state.
The comic book hero was created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in Cleveland in the 1930s. Representative Bill Patmon also sponsored related legislation in the past, such as designating some speciality license plate fees to fund the Superman Foundation.
Valentino Zullo curates the Cleveland Public Library's comic book colletion. He says the holiday also could honor Superman's legacy as a humanitarian.

The bill is currently awaiting its first Senate committee hearing.
