Prosecutor Seeking Tougher Charges Against Malinowski's Alleged Killer

us.geosnews.com

Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O'Brien is  seeking the death penalty for the man convicted of seting his former fiancee on fire in Gahanna in 2015. 33-year-old Judith Malinowski died in June. 42-year-old Michael Slager is current serving an 11-year prison sentence. But a grand jury has indicted him on aggravated murder and other charges. A Franklin County judge in January allowed the victim to give a deposition to be used against Slager in case she died. O'Brien expects the defense to fight it.

O’Brien says there is sufficient evidence to prosecute even without the deposition. Arraignment is scheduled for October 11. Ohio Governor John Kasich earlier this year signed into law a measure creating tougher penalties in such cases.
