The Ottawa County sheriff and state investigators are probing allegations of misconduct against police in Put-In-Bay on South Bass Island. Some of the complaints from residents and business owners have been about what they say are heavy-handed tactics and unlawful arrests. Put-in-Bay police Chief Ric Lampela says he is confident his department has done nothing wrong. His department has a small year-round staff, but hires a number of seasonal officers to deal with the busy summer tourist season.
