Recovery Of Sunken Ship's Treasure Halted

sscentralamerica.com

A salvage company is halting for the year its search for treasure from an 1857 shipwreck off the coast of South Carolina. Odyssey Marine Exploration says its recovery ship is docked for repairs and installation of new equipment. The wreck was found in 1988 by Columbus oceanic engineer Tommy Thompson and his associates. Thompson has been sued by investors who say they were not paid. He is considered a fugitive after failing to appear in court  to explain what happened to the gold and other treasure recovered so far.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
