U.S. Navy

The Pentagon says the remains of a solider from Clark County who was killed in the Pearl Harbor attack of 1941 will be returned home for burial this September. The remains of U.S. Navy Seaman William Welch of Springfield were identified through DNA testing.  Welch was killed on board the U.S.S. Oklahoma.  He had been buried in Hawaii with dozens of other unidentified soldiers and sailors until DNA testing was conducted earlier this year.
