Remembering Former Cleveland Orchestra Conductor Maazel

cleveland.com

Former Cleveland Orchestra conductor Lorin Maazel died Sunday at the age of 84. Born in Paris in 1930, he began playing violin at age 5 and first performed with the orchestra at age 12. He served as it's music director from 1972-1982. Robert Vernon was hired by Maazel as principal violist in 1976, a few years after he replaced the legendary George Szell. Kabir Bhatia of member station WKSU in Kent spoke with Vernon about Maazel.
