A new report shows only two of the ten most common jobs in Ohio pay enough for a worker to rent a two-bedroom apartment.
The report by the National Low Income Housing Coalition and the Coalition on Homelessness and Housing in Ohio says the hourly wage a renter needs to earn to pay for a basic, two-bedroom unit increased this year to 15-dollars-25-cents an hour. The report released Wednesday says the average renter earns 13-dollars-32 cents an hour. This is forcing some into homelessness and others to share living spaces. Registered nursing and customer service jobs pay more than what is needed. The report calls on policy makers to do more to boost wages and affordable housing stock.
