Road Closure And Parking Info For Tonight's "Red, White and Boom"

sciotomile.com

The state's largest fireworks display is tonight.

The 38th annual Red, White & BOOM event is expected to attract over 400 thousand people to the downtown area. Jim Letizia has more on parking and street closures for the event.

The City of Columbus is closing several downtown area streets for the annual event. These include portions of Washington Boulevard, Civic Center Drive, Spring Street, Long Street, Marconi Boulevard and others. Full details of the closures may be found online at pavingtheway.org.  The Broad Street Bridge will close to motorists at 5:30PM and to pedestrian traffic at 9PM. The fireworks will be launched from Genoa Park over the Scioto River at 10PM. Places to park include the lots in the Arena District: the Front Street, Neil Avenue, McConnell and Arena Garages. City officials recommend using public transportation if possible in order to avoid traffic congestion before and after the display. And Columbus police are making their annual plea to residents to not fire guns into the air over the holday, because the bullets can harm humans and property. For more information on the event, visit redwhiteandboom.org.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
