Rose Asks Hall Of Fame To Restore Induction Eligibility

m.mlb.com

Former Cincinnati Reds great Pete Rose is asking the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum to restore his eligibility for induction. In a seven-page letter to the Hall's president, Rose's attorney says his 1989 ban from baseball for gambling was not intended to make him ineligible for induction. The Hall changed its bylaws in 1991 to make banned players ineligible. Rose argues it wasn't then-Commissioner Bart Giamatti's intention to keep him out. Baseball's all-time hits king says commissioner Rob Manfred's denial of his request for reinstatement last December "opened the door" for this effort.
