Salim Appealing Conviction In Ballman's Death

The former New Albany physician convicted of causing the 2012 heroin overdose death of a Pataskala woman is appealing his 36 year prison sentence. An attorney for Ali Salim tells the Fifth Ohio District Court of Appeals a Delaware County judge failed to consider evidence his client is a low risk of further criminal behavior and his behavior was not the worst form of the offense. They say Salim never intended to harm 23-year-old Deanna Ballman because they met by agreement for sex. Prosecutors say Ballman, who met Salim through an online ad, was forced to turn to prostitution to support herself and two young children following a divorce.
