Second Suspect In Bogus Charity Scheme Sentenced

The second central Ohioan charged in a federal tax-refund scam will serve 4 years and two months in prison. 29-year-old Tamara Roberts of Columbus was sentenced Wednesday. Prosecutors say Roberts and 35-year-old Jonathan Webster set up fake online charities to steal identities, using them to steal 1.5 million in tax refunds between January 2010 and February 2013. Webster was sentenced last June to 11 years in prison.

Jim has been with WCBE since 1996. Before that he worked as a reporter at another Columbus radio station, and for three newspapers in Southwest Florida.
