Sen. Rob Portman on Romney's retreat guest list
GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney is hosting a retreat for major donors this weekend in Utah and one of Ohio's senators is on the guest list. For Ohio Public Radio, WKSU's M.L. Schultze explains it could be an audition for the vice presidential nomination.
The three-day gathering in Park City, Utah, will feature top donors, GOP pundits and the men most often mentioned as Romney’s likely running mate.
That includes Ohio Sen. Rob Portman.
On a conference call with reporters this morning, Portman talked about his weekend plans, including participating Saturday morning in the Cincinnati area’s paddlefest.
But only when he was asked, did Portman say he’ll be in Utah as well.
“I’m going out Saturday after the canoe race. They’ve asked me to come out and be a host at the dinner that night and go to a reception so I do plan to do that.”
The conference call ended right after that.
Other potential vice presidential candidates on the Utah invite list are House Budget Chairman Paul Ryan, former Minnesota Gov.Tim Pawlenty, and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal.
