Settlement With Trade School Operators Means Forgiveness Of Some Student Loans

Attorneys General in Ohio and nearly 40 other states say nearly 11 million dollars in student loans will be forgiven as part of a nearly 100 dollar million federal settlement with Pennsylvania-based Education Management Corporation, which runs for-profit trade schools and colleges. More than 7 thousand Ohioans will be affected. The settlement applies to former students who enrolled with under 24 hours of transfer credit, withdrew within 45 days of their first term and last attended between 2006 and 2014. The firm also agreed to better inform prospective students about the costs and pledged to reform its recruiting practices.
